Grant's News
Grant's week started off very quiet, with most of the family away in Virginia for Alex's blessing. He accepted a new duty at work that is basically doing the bookkeeping Friday nights. They have been trying to sucker him into managing at the restaurant, but bookkeeping is as close Grant is willing to get to that. Thursday he was off work and was able to spend some time with Mom and then worked on some art projects. The rest of the week was pretty smooth at work and on Saturday, Grant spent some time with Lanette watching "The Day After Tomorrow". He has successfully turned Lanette into a global warming activist. (Actually, he probably just exacerbated Lanette's obsession with natural disasters.) Saturday night and Sunday morning, Grant spent listening to Whitney Houston music. Grant will greatly miss that senorita.
The Haws Family of Colorado and Afganistan
February 5th Update
This week has been a little crazy but good week. I was able to talk with Andy on Tuesday and Wednesday which was wonderful because he was headed off to his new base in Afghanistan and I don’t know how often he will have internet access because of all of his traveling that he will be doing to all of the other fobs. On Wednesday I also helped in Haley’s class for reading time. I am glad that I have the time to help, because it is nice to be able to spend a little extra time with the girls if I am able too. Thursday Kayla had a play date with Emma for her birthday. Gena took them to McDonalds and then decorated cupcakes. They were having so much fun that when Kayla was chasing Emma, Kayla ran into Emma’s door and ended up with a big bruise on her forehead and by her eye. Later that day after I picked up Haley it started to snow and we ended up with 3 inches within the hour which is unusual for this area. Haley and Kayla planted a “snow tree” while they were playing. On Friday I was daring and adventured out taking Haley to school on rough roads. I only did it because Brother Stewart had to pick up my neighbors kids to take them to school and he told me that if I have front wheel drive I would be fine. I also figured that I need to learn to drive that type of weather. The wind was blowing so bad that it had put almost a foot to 18 inches of snow drifts on the side of the road. I was shocked that it only took us a few minutes longer to get to school than normal. Saturday Haley and Kayla played with Sydney while I enjoyed talking with Sydney’s mom. On Sunday we went to church and I was glad that my class was in a happier mood today. It makes it easier to teach when they want to listen and participate in class.
February 13th update
This week has been fun for the girls. On Monday Vanesa, Wyatt and Luke arrived, but as soon as they got here Vanesa had to take Luke to the ER because he had a double ear infection. After a few days of the antibiotic Luke felt much better. I was also able to hear from Andy on Monday. He is very busy flying/drive from fob to fob and also getting all of his reports done. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. On Wednesday I helped in Haley’s class during reading. Thursday during school and Thursday night Haley had a little play at the school titled “Frog and Toad” she played one of the pond creatures and did a wonderful job too! Friday we ran some errands and then surprised Haley by eating lunch with her at school. On Saturday Haley’s friend Sydney came over to play. When Tamara (Sydney’s mom) came to pick her up, Ryan (Sydney’s brother) was very excited to see that Wyatt was here and of course had a fun time being boys. Sunday the primary sang a birthday song to Kayla. She has been so excited for her birthday to be here. Every day she asks me how many more days until her birthday; after I tell her she says, “I am so excited only (so many days) until my birthday!” Our little girl is growing up so fast.
The Jackson's of Albuquerque
February 5th Update
On Monday Stacie enjoyed a wonderful birthday filled with shopping, delicious crab legs, and getting her nails done. She is a very happy 24-year old.
After a restful Monday came an adventurous Tuesday. While leaving work Stacie tripped on the pavement and fell. She immediately started to feel contractions and decided to call the hospital. The doctor on-call advised her to come in and get a stress test done. After sitting in the waiting room for nearly two hours she was finally monitored. Although they were frustrated that it took so long to get checked, they were thankful to discover that baby Henry is just fine.
On Saturday they helped host the ward Square Dancing & Pie Night. Yes, Stacie, with her big belly and all, joined the dancing in the hopes to induce labor. No luck yet. However, the event was enjoyable and they were thankful for the opportunity to introduce their friends Jim & Sara to the missionaries.
February 13th Update
This week marked Stacie's last week at work before starting her maternity leave. She was pleased to have many outstanding projects completed before she left and thankful that she never had to use her "emergency my-water-just-broke kit" while at work. On Thursday the doctor used an old ultrasound machine to verify the baby's position. Although it was an older image, Stacie & Kevin enjoyed seeing their little one and hope that it won't be long before they see each other face to face.
On Friday Kevin & Stacie went out to dinner with Kattia & Kattia (one Kattia is the woman he tutors and the other is her friend). They really enjoyed discovering a new, delicious Mexican food restaurant and spending time with some very funny Latinas.
On Saturday they had fun taking a walk together and eating some frozen yogurt from Costco. The weather was beautiful. However, this morning it started to snow, which means bad news on Albuquerque roads. While driving on the highway Kevin was hit from behind and spun across several lanes of traffic. We are very thankful that the damage to their car was minimal and that he was not hurt.
Thank you for keeping Stacie & Kevin in your prayers. We hope that Henry will make his appearance this week and will keep you all informed on whatever happens.
The Haws Family of Wisconsin
Mom went out to be with Julie, Jeff and Alex shortly after Alex's birth. She had a wonderful time in Virgina. Logan, Lanette and I left for Pennsylvania on February 3rd. I did not mistype, Pennsylvania. We kept the secret pretty well that we were on our way to Virgina but instead we went straight to Allentown, PA to pick up Jeff. From there we went on to Virginia. That evening we went out to dinner at CiCi's pizzeria. Mom was in line to get her favorite slice of pizza when a handsome young man stood next to her. I was trying to take her picture but suddenly she recognized that handsome young man was Jeff. We all had a great laugh and enjoyed watching Mom rejoice in seeing her son.
The focus of the weekend was Alexander Daniel Lane. He is adorable. Jeff pronouced a beautiful blessing on Alex. It was enjoyable to hear the testimony of Julie and Jeff as well as Fred Lane. We really had a wonderful time in fact I consider it one of the best weekends of my life.
We left Sunday evening and came up to Virginia. We had a brief visit with Steve and Dona. That evening we slept at Jeff's. We traveling back to Marshfield the following day. Despite the long driving time I really had a great time. I am getting rested up for the New Mexico trip in March.
This weekend Mom and I were able to attend the temple. It was a wonderful experience as I realized again how much the Atonement of Jesus Christ means to each of us.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Love,
Dad
