Drawing Names for Christmas

FYI - There has been some questions about when we will be drawing names for Christmas gifts this year. And although Walmart may find it amusing to start the Christmas season in mid September, we will be waiting until November 1st to post which sibling has which for Christmas. So if you are worried about who you have...simmer down. Grant will be sure to post who has who for Christmas as soon as we get past Halloween.

From the Editor's Desk

Another six months has flown by as we again approach general conference. We talked tonight about the prophecy of Isaiah in Isaiah 2:2-3. Isaiah prophesied of the day that many people would gather from all over the world to be taught of the Lord's ways and to walk in His paths. What a blessed time we have been honored to live out our mortal period.

The Wisconsin Haws Family

Logan's games have been rained out this week. We really had quite a storm. He has helped me a great deal with building an attic storage space this weekend. He also had some time to play with friends.

Emily has began to do some serious research on universities and scholarships. She attended a college fair this week and came home with a number of pamphlets. She is working and saving money and learning from the great examples of her older siblings on the value of hard work to achieve a goal.

Lanette's IEP is this week. We are looking for ways to help her transition from school setting into a work and self reliance setting. There are some big steps ahead of her. She is a bit disconcerted that she may not be able to work in a daycare setting. We will be looking into available programs for her. Thankfully Wisconsin has resources not available in Arizona. In all of this I have seen some hidden blessings to our move here.

Grant has been working horendous hours this week. He is still working on management training in Stevens Point. That is about one hour from here. His deer damaged car is in the shop so he has been driving a rental. Grant has done so much with the yard, planting trees, spreading seeds and cultivating all sorts of things. A favorite plant was the pumpkins out by the compost pile. It was pretty amazing how a package of very old seeds turn into a huge plant that engulfed the compost pile. An especially picturesque pumpkin was Grant's pride and joy. With Grant gone so much this week Mom and I decided to play a joke on Grant. We got a giant pumpkin from a friend down the road and transported it to the backyard. That was no small feat. We harvested his pumpkin and replaced it with this giant pumpkin arranging the stems to look like the original plant. We anxiously awaited Grant coming home and checking on his pumpkin. Unfortunately he has been leaving before dawn and arriving home after dusk. I had hidden his pumpkin in the garage but accidentally left it out on Saturday night. When he came home he asked about his pumpkin by the garage. I tried to lie and tell him that was not his pumpkin. "I just got it from someone else". Grant didn't buy it and I am a lousy liar. Well, he did go out to check "his pumpkin patch" with a flashlight. He got a good laugh over our prank and Mom and I had fun telling him of our efforts.

As for Mom and I besides trying to pull pranks on our kids we have had a good week. We are trying to de-clutter. We have enjoyed the fall season with all its color and welcomed cool nights.

News from Newport News

This week we were working on de-cluttering the house and taking things apart to get ready for our move. It is amazing how much stuff one holds on to and uses the excuse, “...this might come in handy someday.” We were able to pass on a lot of our things to the thrift shop and some good families in church. On Saturday we took the girls on a row boat at the Newport News Park. The girls had fun but we were only on the water for a half-an-hour before the girls started complaining that they were hungry, so we had to cut our “hour” on the lake short.

The International Haws Family

Mom and Dad,

Our week went well in general.

The greatest amount of excitement arose from the cracking of our water box. For general information one must understand that everything in Brazil is done in the most backward way possible. Knowing that you may remember that our water storage is not underground as in the USA rather on top of our roof.

Toward the end of the week the box, which had previously cracked a bit and was repaired, cracked further causing water to puddle on the cement roof over the bathroom. Puddling over cement is not great as the water tends to permeate down through and finally drip inside the house. Finally deciding that enough was enough we purchased a new water box and began the process of replacing.

Replacing the water box was generally a good decision. The old box was made of asbestos, water storage in asbestos is not very healthy. Still the box was very heavy, significantly more than the fiber-glass replacement. Removing the old box caused quite a headache. Then to make matter worse the new box is not actually a box as it is not square or rectangle, but circular. That does not sound bad at first but try to seal the pipes on a rounded surface, they just don’t seal well. Thus the dripping continued.

I worsened the problem as I suspected that I could place a plastic tarp beneath the box to help avoid the direct water on the roof. This did not work as water that managed to get under the tarp had no way to escape and the heat of the sun best evaporates only the water over the tarp and not under.

So we finish our week with the same dripping from different causes. On the bright side we were able to finally seal off the pipes to and from the box before the rain started and when the rain stops we will likely cover the cement roof with the same roofing we use over the rest of the house.

Besides that fun all else is pretty normal. School and soccer occupy most of the boys’ time, Renata always has a busy schedule and I have enjoyed work and my opportunities to learn about some new file types this week and their possible usage for future data transfer.

Love,

Jeff

The Lane's of Harrisonburg

Jeff and I wanted to mention how very grateful we are that we decided to move when we did - there was a murder in the parking lot behind our building. The saddest part is that it was a woman whom was pregnant with twins. It was very sad! We have had many problems with that complex and so we are grateful that we will be leaving this environment soon.

This week we have spent some more time with our kittens that grow more and more each time. Princess and Ek Balam are so cute. Princess fits her name and gets quite grumpy if you do not comply. Ek Balam is very curious, but very cuddly. Jeff is very good with the kittens. He sure loves them.

The apartment is covered in boxes and the remains to be packed. We decided to form the bed room into a packing area, so we would not have to trip over everything. As you can tell we are basically all packed.

I have had a few relief society events; including, the conference and enrichment. Then we had young marrieds institute. Tonight Jeff had a youth fireside. At church today the primary gave me a mood pencil that says"I know Jesus Loves Me" since it was her last Sunday in the ward. I love primary and I love my class this and some of our new friends are going to be the hardest not to see as often. Especially the Hartmans. The Hartmans are an older couple who have been extremely kind to us. The have become some very good friends!

The Jackson's of Albuquerque

This week was a rainy week in Albuquerque, but enjoyable for Stacie & Kevin. On Monday Stacie and Kevin enjoyed playing their favorite vintage car racing video game and baked dinosaur shaped cookies. On Tuesday Kevin hung out at the laundry mat as Stacie headed off to mutual. For mutual the leaders held a series of games to practice effective communication. On Wednesday Stacie and Kevin had the opportunity to attend the temple. They were happy to finally finish the names Dad found.

On Friday Stacie and Kevin headed to their cub scout Pack Meeting. Kevin did a great job leading an activity focused on flag etiquette. The cubs did a great job and were very funny to watch when they got the answer correct. Afterwards they visited the YMCA and spent some time creating signs for an upcoming campaign and talking with their neighbor and friend, Cesar. Late in the evening they decided to finally eat dinner only to discover that most restaurants in Albuquerque close at 9pm. So instead they spent most of the evening driving around town.

On Saturday Stacie and Kevin ran a 5k on the other side of town. Kevin won some brownie points by deciding to stick next to Stacie throughout the race. After the race they went on a hunt to find the only Chik-fil-A restaurant in Albuquerque. It took them a lot of searching, but they were very excited when they finally found it. In the evening, Stacie headed over to the Relief Society Broadcast. It was great getting to know the other ladies in her ward and listening to the prophet's words.

A couple movie clips from Julie and Jeff and girls

September 19, 2010

From the Editor's Desk

What a great week this has been. We have enjoyed wonderful fall weather. I have been blessed to identified a number of your ancestors needing temple work. I will send them out to interested parties in the near future and request your assistance. Thank you so much for doing this critical work of salvation.

The Wisconsin Haws Family

Logan's chickens are getting enormous. It is amazing how fast they are growing. It may be the generous amounts of feeding he is giving them but it is really fun to see them grow. On Saturday night we invited Logan's friends and parents to our home for a bonfire, S'mores and ice cream. It was fun. He loves his new school.

Emily skipped the bonfire so that she could go out to eat at Royal Tokyo with some of her friends. I cannot image why she did not want to skip the restaurant and stay home for the ice cream. Oh well. She has been busy with work and school. She has returned to playing in the band while Logan has changed from band to choir.

Lanette has been making contact with all sorts of her friends via her cellphone. She has really enjoyed the new freedom. She is interested in a IPhone for the blind. We will have to get more details.

Grant has spent another week in Stevens Point training. No Bambi causalities this week...and the damages to his car from the last suicidal deer will be repaired this coming week so Grant is very excited about that. Grant is extremely anxious to get back to his Applebuddies in Marshfield. He often stops in to see his friends at his work here in Marshfield after getting back from Stevens Point and he misses seeing them on a daily basis. Otherwise, nothing much is going on for Grant.

Mom has been working on organizing her craft room as I tear about the garage. Someday we will have it all in order. Mom has made it perfectly clear that my "cost-saving" idea with getting rid of the LAN line was penny wise and dollar foolish. We will have our LAN line back in business this Thursday. Same number. Mom is a great person. I hope each of you know that. This week she was concerned about Grant traveling so much so she arranged a motel room for him on Saturday night in Stevens Point so that he could get a good night sleep instead of spending two extra hours driving. That kind of constant concern is Mom's hallmark.

This week I was called to be the Scoutmaster. I am excited. It brings back memories of working with Andy, Jeff and Grant. I hope that I can do a good job for Logan.

News from Newport News

Time seems like it has flown by. This week in speech therapy Kayla was able to say the “d” and “f” sounds. Mrs. Smalls and I were so excited to hear Kayla pronounce those sounds. She still needs lots of practice but at least now she knows she is able to say them. Haley seems to like school and is trying hard to do her best sounding out words when she is writing her sentences. Last Friday Julie and Jeff came to watch the girls for us while Andy and I spent the day together for our anniversary. Even though it was really nice to go into stores without extra hands pulling toys off shelves or little girls hiding in clothes racks, it was wonderful to come back home to home-made hand printed door hangers from precious little angels.

The International Haws Family

Mom and Dad,

Our week was quite enjoyable.

As mentioned in a previous email we had a real challenge to collect urine and feces samples from Lucas and Derick. They just did not want to let the doctor have a look at that stuff. After some exertion and threats we were able to deliver the product for review and both appear to be in fairly good health. A blood test was also necessary, but big-bad daddy made sure that went smoothly.

This week I had a significant amount of busy work. By busy work I mean work that requires little analysis, but a lot of rote repetition – copy-past-next type of actions. During these exercises I usually listen to an online lecture. I am attaching a link to one that I found especially enjoyable: http://academicearth.org/lectures/why_not . AcademicEarth.og has lots of lectures from many great universities like Harvard, Yale and MIT. Most, including the attached last about an hour.

The boys continue well. Each appears to be growing more-and-more quickly every day.

Renata is also well.

Love,

Jeff

OUR BIG EXCITEMENT THIS WEEK IS THAT JEFF AND I WENT TO NEW PORT NEWS! Besides visiting the place where we got engaged, we saw Andy, Melanie, Haley and Kayla. We had a nice evening at their house on Friday. After the girls wore me out playing horsey and being silly, Andy showed Jeff and me his gun. It is cool! Saturday, we kicked Andy and Melanie out and then took the girls to the animal museum, sonic, pond (to feed the fish), playground. when we brought them home we had them dress up in their Halloween dresses and played trick-or-treat with us and making "spider pizza". For all that, Kayla rewarded us with an unexpected bout of diarrhea(all of the bathroom!) and then flooding the toilet with the same materials. Actually, it really was more about making sure she was okay. Andy and Melanie modeled their clothes that they brought home for the family picture. Sunday we went to church with Melanie and Kayla since Andy wash staying home with Haley (she had a peculiar rash).

While were at both the zoo and the pond Julie got some great pictures. Some are National Geographic quality!

Monday we saw the kitties again. Princess is getting FAT! :) But she loves her Mommy! Ek Balam is very curious! They are getting Bigger every time.We love to play with them and we are excited to welcome them to our home! It is less than three weeks now!

The Jackson's of Albuquerque

On Monday Stacie had a great opportunity to invite a co-worker to church. Although the co-worker didn't feel up to coming today, hopefully it continues to be a good discussion. She also enjoyed hearing a story from one of her staff members about how her staff member went to an LDS Young Single Adult dance without knowing what it was until the DJ said something. She suddenly realized why no one was joining in her jokes about how booze would improve the party.

For mutual on Tuesday Stacie joined the youth in playing "human foosball" at the church. It was fun, even if she might of lost her voice from yelling the rules out repeatedly. On Thursday Stacie & Kevin attended their Cub Committee meeting. They look forwarded to holding pack meeting this upcoming week. On Friday Kevin and Stacie attended a dinner held by one of Kevin's fellow graduate students. They enjoyed getting to know other people in his program and the free food, of course!

On Saturday Stacie spent the morning hanging out with a friend from work. They went to check out a sale at a local church that was kind of like a nice, well organized yard sale. Stacie found a few treasures she looks forward to using and really enjoyed gaining a new friend. Later in the day Stacie baked cinnamon bread and stayed up late after procrastinating her lesson for Young Women's.

From the Editor's Desk

Mom and I dropped off Lanette today. As were were coming through Stratford we witnessed a very classic Wisconsin moment. A man was out sitting on his tractor by an apple tree. In the tractor shovel was a tall ladder. On top of the ladder was the man's wife who was picking apples! That is one of the many unique moments that make Wisconsin...Wisconsin.

We hope that you have a great week. Please enjoy the update on family news.

The Wisconsin Haws Family

Logan had his first soccer game of the year. They tied 3-3. He has two games this week. He has enjoyed the first weeks of school at Columbus and is beginning to make some new friends. His chickens are growing nicely. They have been flying out of their enclosure so Logan and I had to clip their wing feathers. It is one more of the new experiences of life.

Emily enjoyed her 17th birthday. We went out to eat as a family at El Mezcal, a favorite restaurant here in Marshfield. She was able to go out with some of her friends to eat out on her actual birthday. She is working on a regular basis at Chips and carrying a solid load of classes.

Lanette has been reading the book "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" which is higher level book than she has been reading up until this point. She has a new daily living skills teacher which is a much needed instruction as Lanette works towards increased independence.

This week Grant has been on the road a lot due to his continued training at the Stevens Point store. The hour drive isn't too bad except for when he gets off work at two in the morning and has to drive home through the deer-infested woods. Grant is still there for another four weeks but often finds himself visiting his Marshfield Applebuddies on his days off. And he hasn't killed any deer with his car so this week is counting as a "win".

Mom and I hoped to attend the temple together yesterday but somehow mom's temple recommend was lost. I attended with President and Sister Smith. The time at the temple was relatively short but a much needed boost. The temple gives me a greater perspective on the "big picture". I have been working quite hard and trying to develop some projects including a data base for an orphan disease and resident research training. I was delighted this week that the 11 year old patient I have told you about had one more set of studies on Friday that show that his cancer has still not recurred. Eleven more months until he can be transplanted!

News from Newport News

On Monday we were able to attend Stake Temple Day at the Washington DC Temple. Andy and the girls stayed out and walked around the temple grounds while I went and did a session with the stake. The temple is so wonderful. The spirit one feels while just walking on the grounds is so strong. I am grateful that we were able to spend the day there. On Tuesday Haley started her first day of Kindergarten. She told me that she does not want me to take her in; she just wants to be dropped off. Kayla was also able to start “school” with Ms. Smalls her speech therapist. She was excited because she said that Ms. Smalls has her class outside and has lots of toys. Andy is enjoying his time trying to de-clutter the house and get things accomplished before he goes to school.

The International Haws Family

Our week went smoothly.

Unfortunately I do not have the camera with me to take a picture of Derick. He is growing so quickly that it is surprising.

Felipe and Lucas are well. Both continue with soccer and school but soccer tends to be their preferred priority;

Renata continues well in her school. It is an accelerated program for adults and while the thought of advancing two years in one may excite the consequence is inevitably also two years of homework in one brings a quick halt to the fun. Still she has been keeping pace and enjoying the learning opportunity.

Besides work with iPhone development I have also had weather related projects and confess that I never enjoyed weather as much as I do now. I tried to show images from a satellite to Renata and the boys, they did not show the same joy.

Love,

Jeff

The Jackson's of Albuquerque

Monday was a nice day for Stacie and Kevin since Stacie was able to stay home from work all day. They enjoyed talking to their friends, Mike and Shari Satko, who are now living in Washington and playing in a nearby park. For mutual on Tuesday, Stacie hiked up the mountain. Thankfully the young women's encounter with a snake ended without anyone getting hurt and they all enjoyed looking down at the beautiful city lights. On Wednesday Stacie was excited for the premiere of her favorite show, America's Next Top Model. In Provo Grant, Carolyn and Stacie would get together every week to watch it and beginning this new season makes Stacie miss them an awful lot.

On Friday Stacie and Kevin stayed up late watching the film, "Invictus," which they enjoyed. On Saturday Stacie headed off to a stake training meeting. Saturday afternoon Kevin and Stacie stopped by their local library, which is just down their road. Stacie checked out a book about sewing and is determined to start using her sewing machine. In the evening, Stacie and Kevin went out to Olive Garden and enjoyed spending the evening together.

The Lane's of Virginia

This week has been a busy week, plus Jeff has been putting in extra hours because his work has asked everyone to do so! It is the beginning of their busiest season! Jeff is working very hard!

Monday we went spelunking in Endless Caverns with Jeff's old roommate and his wife. It is a smaller cave then the one that we went to while many of you were visiting. There are a couple of the pictures we took of the cave markers that we really loved. There were a lot of Budda and Christmas themed formations. My favorite part was called "the fairy kingdom". They took us to a random part of the caverns that appeared to be a dead end. Then they turned off the lights and let us experience pure darkness. When they flipped on the switch we saw the view that is in the picture with the water. Everyone of us gasped. We only saw wall when we first came down, but then we saw the reflection pool and a crawl space that led deeper inside of the cave.

Later that night we went to see our kitty again. The kitty was starting to get comfortable playing in the field. We had to chase it down a few times. One time as we went to chase it, not two seconds had passed, when some older cats stole our cat toy. We had to chase them all the way under the house to get it back! It was funny. Ek Balam get more and more comfortable with us every time we visit. She will even come to us. She is sometimes a little hesitant because the family has some little kids and they ummm... love on those kitties to the point that they are being smothered.
Tuesday- we cannot remember???
Wednesday-Julie had a doctor's appointment- more bad news and more waiting and almost no progress :( I am starting to lose hope.
Jeff and I ran to use the last of our Coldstone gift cards to brighten the day a bit. Oh and it did! My doctor would hunt me down if she had the slightest inclination. She actually said that she was impressed with how healthy I ate and how proportionate! It is a good thing she did not see that ice cream!
Thursday- running errands
Friday- We planned to go see the kitty again. We called ahead to make sure that it was okay with the family. Then we made a cake that looked like a spooky ghost yard and a sign that said "The ghosts are coming out to say thanks!" Since they are letting us keep the kitties there until we move and they are even willing to train the kitties for us. We thought we would drop it off as we were going to go see the kitty. When we got there the family told us that we were going to stay for dinner and then the kids showed us the dogs and Jeff and I played with the kitties. Ek Balam and Princess crawled into my purse and would not come out for anything! We did however get them out. There is a picture of princess, the kitty with the gray eye patch and Ek Balam is the one with the gray top and oriental lines near its eyes, in my lap.
Saturday we went and helped the kitty family pick potatoes. The kitty family has one of my sunday school students in it and the whole time he was pointing out to me where all the good potatoes were as he sat high up in a tree. After that there was a baptism for one of Julie's other sunday school students, Mikayla. After that there was a TRI-ward Luau. We went for a little while and then we went to the new mother's house, the one that we brought food to last week, to hang out with her and her husband. We really like them and we are hoping to form a good friendship with them. They are pretty similar to us in some ways. The husband is really into sports like Jeff and the wife is into books, crafts and movies like Julie. They have a little boy,Konrad, and a three week year old daughter,Quinella.

Tonight Jeff had a priesthood meeting. He saw some old friends and some current friends.

We will be seeing Andy, Melanie, Haley and Kayla this week. I am soo excited we are already planning some Halloween activities since they are going to be busy moving this Holiday season. We will let you know

From the Editor's Desk

This upcoming week we celebrate Emily's seventeenth birthday! It is amazing to recall just yesterday when Mom brought this newborn baby with big brown eyes home.

The Wisconsin Haws Family

Emily started her junior year at Marshfield High this week. She has been working at Chips, which is a burger and shake restaurant here in Marshfield.

Fall weather has definitely started this week in Marshfield. Some of the leaves have started changing and the pumpkins growing in our yard have started turning orange. Geese have started passing overhead as they have been migrating south.

Mom has had an exhausting week at Washington Elementary School. She has been substituting as an aide for an eleven year old blind girl that goes there. Lanette and Mom met the girl and her mother one day in Walmart a while back and that is how the opportunity for Mom to work with her at school opened up. However, Mom is anxious for a full-time aide to be found so that Mom doesn't have to spend all day on her feet.

Grant has been commuting an hour each way to Stevens Point all week. He is training there for the next five weeks or so for his new position with Applebee's, even though he will end up managing at the Marshfield location. Right now he is being trained how to cook all the menu items, which has been a lot of fun. Grant is already anxious to have his one minute commute to work back. On Thursday night he was coming back from point and hit a deer. It banged up the bumper to his car, but luckily, he walked away unhurt...which can't be said for Bambi's mother.

Lanette played hookie from school this week and was able to spend time with her friends April Onsager and None Crowe. Lanette enjoys her time with Nona because of Nona family's "stupid talk" which is their term for silly subjects. Lanette got to watch one of her favorite movies, Titanic, with April. April is one of dad's former coworkers and has become a very kind friend for Lanette.

Logan started school at Columbus Catholic School on Monday. He is excited about the change from public schools, as he points out "everyone at Columbus is calmer." One of Logan's favorite teachers is Mrs. Derfus, who also works with Grant at Applebee's on the weekends. This weekend Logan worked on priming the wood for his chicken coop. Hopefully if the weather gets more sunny this week they will be painting it red. The chickens are getting pretty big and Logan was able to show them off to Brother Bates, who along with Sister Pilsner, got Logan interested in raising chickens. Brother and Sister Bates were over for dinner this evening and Brother Bates continues asking when Logan will get his first dozen eggs.

Dad spent the week in New York City. I had a wonderful time. The meeting was excellent and included physicians from all over the world. One funny thing that happened was a discussion I had with a physician from Brazil. She was standing in line in front of me. I noted on her name badge that she was from Sao Paulo. I introduced myself and told her that I had a son and daughter-in-law that lived in Angra. I asked her if she knew where Angra was. She paused for a while then said "yes, she was my favorite teacher." At that point I realized the language barrier was impeding our communication. I had a very enjoyable time with Steve and Dona. Steve and I went to two different free operas at the Metropolitan Opera. I thought that it would be very boring but found out that it was a profound art form. I enjoyed a dinner with Steve and Dona sitting on the shore across the bay from the Statue of Liberty. I have many wonderful memories of Steve. Steve has been an important role model for me taking the role of big brother. His service as missionary was critical to me wanting to be a missionary. His graduating from college was probably the first member of the Buchanan family line to accomplish this. That inspired me to go on to college and ultimately medical school. He continues to provide an example to me as he would pick up garbage left on the subway platform, buy meals for homeless people and always speak kindly of people. He is really a great person. I came home enriched by the experience.

The Jackson's of Albuquerque

A few weeks ago Kevin was assigned to open the Y every day. Since this meant Kevin would have to ride his bike up to work in the dark, Stacie decided to start driving him up and using the gym while he started off work. She was surprised to find that using the gym each morning really helped her wake up and feel more energized throughout the day- even if it means waking up at a whopping 4:30a.m. Both Kevin and Stacie enjoy having a little more time together each day and the "free" (I guess Kevin works for it) use of the gym. Kevin and Stacie have decided to run a half marathon together and are earnestly on the lookout to find a nearby race that will be held on a Saturday- a task which is proving to be pretty difficult.

On Tuesday Stacie attended mutual to fulfill her new calling in the Young Women's organization. The girls learned about etiquette and celebrated a new Mia Maid's birthday. On Wednesday Kevin decided to bake gingersnaps in memory of his great-grandmother, Grandma Viv's, birthday. They discovered, however, that their recipe makes far more gingersnaps than just the two of them could eat. They have spent much of the rest of the week trying to spread around their extra cookies.

On Friday they watched "Wall-e" together for the first time and really enjoyed it. Stacie was very happy to learn this week that "Beauty and the Beast" will be re-released in October. On Saturday Stacie & Kevin got to "sleep in" to 7:30am. Kevin headed off to work and Stacie deep cleaned their apartment. (Thankfully it is much smaller and younger than their old house.) When Kevin finished working he showed her around the gym and taught her some challenging exercises to try out. In the evening they went out to eat at their new favorite, Souper Salad, and stayed up late watching their favorite show, "30 Rock."

News from Newport News

This week has been busy getting back into the swing of things. Andy had to work a couple of days this week trying to take care of things before we head off to Fort Carson, but because of it being Fort Eustis and Labor day weekend they all told him to come back on Tuesday. Haley was able to meet her kindergarten teacher this week at back-to-school night. She is excited because this year she will be taking her own lunch to school in her new Hello Kitty lunch box. Saturday we took the girls to Home Depot to do an art project and then to the Virginia Living Museum.

The Lanes of Virginia

Hey to all!
This week has been VERY Very Busy!
Monday we helped an older sister in the ward who's husband was out of town. She needed some help with her food storage and moving some doors into their unfinished basement. Tuesday we were going to go back to the sister's house to move a piano, but that one fell through.
Wednesday Jeff had mutual. Thursday Julie had a baby shower in the evening. It was a fun experience. Before hand we stopped to see our kitty and it was cute as can be.Julie had made it a little jean mouse that had a sock with hot rice in it. When we put Ek Balam in our arms with the rice pack it was very cuddly.
Friday we went on a date to look at some prices on cat stuff that we were going to need for Ek Balam. However, Julie had done some online research as to what was the best way to buy some of the stuff for an awesome deal off of eBay brand new. As we compared the stuff to the stuff at Petco and Petsmart we found that there was about a hundred and ten dollar difference-needless to say we were excited about saving that much money!!!
Saturday we went up to the temple. We went to do some sealings and well another couple came up. The other husband was actually doing a living sealing to his dead parents. Jeff got to be the dead dad!Just prepping for Halloween! :) When we got home we moved our bed into the living room so that we could kind of experience what a studio apartment would feel like.

Sunday we had the opportunity to take some lemon-lime chicken Alfredo to a new mother in the ward. Jeff got talking sports to the husband and Julie books and crafts with the wife and before we knew it four hours had flown by in a heart beat.

The International Haws Family
Dad and Mom,

Our week continued rather uneventful. The kids are very happy as school has
been out since Thursday and will continue so until Wednesday because
Independence Day is on Tuesday, Brazilians never go to school.

Derick enjoyed an afternoon with Renata at the mall on Saturday, you should
find a turtle in the water. Derick took the pictures and returned home very
proud of himself for spotting it.
